    In your opinion what is the best rangefinder for the common bow hunter?

    I’ve numbers mine for years and I only shoot 3 at a time. After each arrow shot I mentally evaluate my execution of the shot 95% of the time when I walk up to the target I can tell which arrow hit the spot I was aiming at more than 3 arrows and they kind of blend in.

    Mine are all numbered as well. It truly does help you know each arrow. Good tips.

    I would think the reason the best arrow isn't the easiest to tune is because it's still an outlier from the average.

    Been numbering my arrows for over 30 years. As a cheesehead, I use my favorite Packer players. Fun fact: I lost an Easton ACC with a Leroy Butler #36 in North Dakota in 1998 shooting at a coyote from a tree stand. I was bummed because he killed a nice 8-point whitetail the day before... BTW, #36 is credited with performing the first Lambeau Leap #GoPackGo

    I definitely say: "To each their own" on this one. I just haven't run into a situation where I felt that numbering my arrows would have mattered that much to me. This is especially true now that I'm shooting Altra Arrows, where their tolerances on component weight are so tight, and there is no need to "spine align" the arrows. When I first started archery, I was deep into the tinkering aspect of it, but I'm the complete opposite right now. Actually shooting my bow and getting better is all that really matters to me.

    • @kalvinhutchins3704

      I've wondered about Altra arrows and why you have to select a spine when ordering if they have "no spine" technology? Not sure how that works.

    • @Illustrator76
      @Illustrator76 2 години тому

      @@kalvinhutchins3704They have a "no spine" technology, meaning no "dynamic spine", so you don't have to worry about nock tuning to get each arrow to fly correctly. Just fletch them and go.

    • @kalvinhutchins3704
      @kalvinhutchins3704 Годину тому

      @@Illustrator76 right...that part I get. But when I go to the website to order arrows, it gives an option to select spine. I just don't get why we have to select a spine on a no spine technology. Sorry not meaning to be a pain.

    • @michaelcolthart4006
      @michaelcolthart4006 19 хвилин тому

      @@kalvinhutchins3704selecting spine in that context is the general stiffness of the arrow. “No spine technology” means there is no side of the arrow that is stiffer or weaker than any other side. Arrows manufactured by wrapping carbon sheets into a cylinder will have a stiff side because the never of layers at any given point isn’t equal with the rest of the arrow (roll a piece of paper into a cylinder and you’ll see what I mean.). Altra and Easton use a technique that weaves the carbon into a cylinder so the amount of carbon fiber is equal on all sides alleviating the need to find the stiff or weak side.

      Same, and then after that I re-fletch anything that isn't flying as good as it should, then after nock tuning and making everything as good as I can I re-number them, but on the shaft, so I can still identify them easily for 3D after fletchings get shot off.

    I shoot a Mathews Conquest 2 for target and it's a very solid bow. I like the control you get with the long axle to axle and there is nothing like a Mathews IMO. But I have been thinking about getting a newer more modern bow and I don't really see any bows out there that do not have the parallel limb design. Plus since I only shoot at 50ish pounds...this model might be a good fit. Too bad I live in Michigan...although it's not all that far !!!

Some make bad shots with either and never recover the animal so guess what...they blame the broadhead. And make the change.. so heres the deal you hunt long enuff with either, chit can and will go wrong... remember it !!! And you wiil hunt your way to another day of sucess...no guarantees in the woods... if there was everyone would do it... so chose what you like. And hunt with it. To be completely honest you give up comfort when comparing to a climber, atleast in my opinion. BUT, it is worth it to be able to get in any tree you want as well as be able to get into cover. I’ve walked in the woods before with a climber with intentions to hunt and had to leave because I couldn’t find a tree to get into.

    I grew up in Minnesota and often hunted deer in sub-zero weather. In Virginia now for years I have not changed my system of normal hunting dress. If you learn how to dress for outdoor sports you don't need that expensive stuff. You can use a normal Columbia winter coat and a decent pair of insulated bib overalls and quality waterproof insulated boots. I wear or carry in my pack a good quality Real Tree rain shell bottom and hooded top. In 55 years of hunting I just don't get cold when I dress like this. Being able to layer on treks in and out of the woods ensures I won't sweat. Dry, windproof, dependable and versatile. And very budget friendly.

    So if you can find the rx5 at a mark down, is it worth it? Draw cycle an improvement? I've got a defiant. I like the draw but it is so aggressive on the pull forward. It wants to let em fly and not much relief to hold it in the back wall

    Your videos are always incredibly well done and packed with very useful information presented in a way that even simple old fellas like myself can understand. Thank you for all that you do!

    Great instructional video. What is particularly impressive is your ability to deliver clean crisp images of what you are working on without a videographer helping out. There are some "shock jock" channels out there just "pumping out" "content" (not quite but it makes me think of the "Howard Stern" of archery videos). Hey, they are okay, but frankly their content is often crappy and in being so, it is disrespectful of the audience - meaning they do an AWFUL job of actual providing images and descriptions of what they are working on - as if that is an afterthought. Which it probably is. Despite the fact that they often have a 3rd party shooting the video (based on the poor quality, it must be the middle school kid next door. LOL.). The "shock jock" channels also tend to provide crappy half arse measurements and round things up or down randomly (seems dependent on which bow they want to "push"). Not to say I don't appreciate the shock jock channels somewhat for what they are, and I'm NOT saying they don't know what they are doing. But their presentations are often "sloppy" at best while you actually do good quality work. I get annoyed when I have to listen to a 20-30 video, watching sections more than once to glean 5 minutes of information. YOU do not do that to your viewers. Many others do.... Maybe I am an outlier, but I'm not looking for a couple or three "buds' goofing off and joking and yapping up a storm and / or making lewd sexual references. Hey, that's all good - but not what I'm looking for in a technical video. I want information professionally and concisely delivered. You excel at that. Hopefully it proves to be a good business model for you. Thank you for respecting your viewers! Thank you for what you do!

    Folks are clicking to watch probably because they have had vanes fall off and inserts pull out, so I would suggest that you don't say (essentially) "it doesn't matter that much, experiment and find what you like". I like your videos, but thought that comment wasn't helpful because it undercuts your specific message and expertise. They are clicking to learn from your expertise because they don't want to do trial and error and then have to deal with the follow on issues (like an expensive Broadhead stuck in a foam target somewhere when an insert pulled out). Folks trust your advice, you don't need to pussyfoot around just to avoid people getting upset that you might have criticized Elmers glue or something. Can you tell us if the insert glue that Easton sells / provides for its inserts perform well and whether or not it is a "slow cure" type. Personally, I've had good luck with Easton insert glue. I'm also happy to use a better or similar glue that isn't priced at a premium due to the brand.
